This study systematically explored the major traditional <italic>feng-shui </italic> terminology that is important in site planning, landscape design, and building design. The study summarized essential Chinese sustainable philosophies as a philosophical background of <italic>feng shui</italic>. It classified and defined three types of classic <italic>feng-shui</italic> sites. The study also analyzed the <italic>feng shui</italic> as it relates to the building design and implemented a <italic>feng-shui</italic> analysis combined with the bioclimatic study. The city of Sierra Vista, in Cochise County, Arizona, was used for this analysis. In general, the study built a connection between <italic> feng shui</italic> and modern science; it emphasized the necessity of <italic> feng shui</italic> in modern sustainable development.
