The Presbyterian church is active throughout Ireland and is the largest protestant denomination in Northern Ireland. Ulster protestants often suffer a confused sense of identity, but historically have been radical dissenters from the establishment. Presbyterians in Ireland Today addresses their politics and culture including that of the Ulster-Scots and Irish, social and moral issues affecting presbyterianism, the rolesof women, the influence of life history and geographical location, educational issues and inter church relations, the Orange Order, the ministry, and the future. The author approaches the study as a Presbyterian,a sociologist and a feminist. Her data draws on interviewswith over 100 Ministers and individuals from 25 different congregations. The purpose of the study isto promote understanding of Presbyterians today in the North and South of Ireland, and to give voiceto the views of ordinary members.
