摘要註:	自1979年開始經濟改革後，到中國的海外直接投資不斷增加。在漸進式的改革方式下，中國逐漸由計畫經濟體轉向市場經濟體。改革開放的腳步是由東向西，由沿海至內陸，這也造成了各省發展不均的現象。以往的研究主要探討各地發展不平衡與國民生產毛額間的關係；然而，很少有文章研究市場發展程度對多國籍企業效率的影響，本文即是以多國籍企業的角度探討市場發展程度與廠商特性對其效率之影響。資料是以18,249 家多國籍企業在中國的子公司為研究樣本，研究期間為2006 年。實證結果指出，市場發展程度、海外子公司所擁有的無形資產、廠商規模與資金多角化皆會顯著影響多國籍企業海外子公司之效率。此外，市場發展程度亦會調節無形資產與資金多角化對多國籍企業海外子公司效率的影響。 Since the start of economic reform of China in 1979, inward foreign direct investment (FDI) to China has been increased tremendously. It is well known that FDI plays an important role in the economic development of mainland China (Sun et al., 2002; Hsiao et al., 2003). China advocated the "progressive reform" policy, and shifted from a planned economy to a market economy. The progressive reform is from the south to the north and from the east to the west. As economy grow the problem of regional inequality became seriously. Market development and environmental factors (i.e. infrastructure) have difference among provinces, which may influence the efficiency of multinational enterprises' (MNEs') subsidiaries in the mainland China. Fan and Wang (2000, 2004, 2006, and 2009) created the market development indices for 31 provinces of mainland China; it investigated how the degree of market development and environmental factors influence the efficiency of MNE's subsidiaries. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is widely used to measure the efficiency of peer decision making units (DMUs) with multi outputs and multi inputs. This study will apply the two-stage DEA approach, proposed by Simar and Wilson (2007), to evaluate the impact of environmental variables on the efficiency of MNEs' subsidiaries in mainland China. In the first stage, the technical efficiency of the MNEs' subsidiaries is estimated by the BCC model. In the second stage, the bootstrap method are use to evaluate the impact of environmental variables on the technical efficiency of MNEs' subsidiaries. The dataset of MNE's subsidiaries in mainland China based on the data of the NERI INDEX of marketization, CCIS, China yearbook, and China City statistical Yearbook. These subsidiaries can be divided into three groups, Hi-Tech industry, manufacturing industry and traditional industry. Empirical results can provide managers of MNE's subsidiaries in mainland china a guideline to set their operational strategies and to government their FDI policies.
