Hegel and the Future of Systematic Philosophy critically rethinks and extends Hegel's project for systematic philosophy without foundations, engaging the most important contemporary debates concerning logic, epistemology, metaphysics, nature, mind, economic justice, political freedom, globalization, and literary theory.Hegel and the Future of Systematic Philosophy critically rehabilitates Hegel's post-enlightenment project of doing systematic philosophy without foundations, showing how it can solve the dilemmas afflicting contemporary analytic and post-modern thought alike. Thinking through and building upon Hegel's arguments, the book tackles the most important issues driving current debates in logic, epistemology, metaphysics, the philosophies of nature and mind, ethics, and aesthetics. Ranging over such topics as the objectivity of thought, the limits of intersubjectivity, the legitimacy of capitalism and globalization, the relation of civil society and the state, and the connection of civilization to literary form, Hegel and the Future of Systematic Philosophy stakes out a powerful challenge to both the prevailing interpretations of Hegel and the reigning philosophical schools of today.
