Automatic License Plate Detection (ALPR) systems have gained popularity in the last decade with the growth of law enforcement, parking lots, toll gate systems, etc. ALPR systems capture a picture of the vehicle’s license plate and process it to accurately identify its unique registration number and state of the issuance of the plate. This helps authorities to take immediate action in cases of unlawful activities.As of now, ALPR systems have been deployed in many commercial environments. With the recent advancements in technology and the rise of problem-specific development tools, the goal of this project is to implement our proposed system using drones backed by artificial intelligence. Unlike traditional methods, where an application is developed incorporating many algorithms and complex mathematics to achieve even a simple task of template matching, deep learning techniques can provide an accurate human-like prediction in real-time for data, it has never seen before. This research proposes to develop cutting-edge technology that leverages deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to solve the problem of reading a license plate in a natural setting.
