High-performance composite hollow fiber membranes have been developed in this thesis. Firstly, a highly crosslinked polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with a huge molecular network (577000 g/mol) can be synthesized by applying the post-crosslinking method. The resultant PDMS/polyacrylonitrile (PAN) composite membrane shows impressive O2 and CO2 permeances which are higher than 1000 and 5000 GPU, respectively; while the corresponding selectivities of O2/N2 and CO2/N2 are about 2 and 11, respectively. Secondly, polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs)/PDMS/PAN three-layer composite membranes were fabricated by introducing a properly defective PDMS gutter layer between the PIM selective layer and PAN substrates. The optimal defect-free PIM composite membrane has pure O2 and CO2 permeances of 69 and 483 GPU, respectively. Lastly, a robust and defect-free PDMS/PAN composite hollow fiber membrane has been developed for air/biogas dehumidification. The as-produced PDMS/PAN composite membrane has a water vapor permeance ranging from about 800 to 3700 GPU depending on operation conditions.Subjects--Topical Terms:
