Applied theatre has generally been developed as a practice that functions as a significant interface between theatre and society, providingcommunities with a sense of empowerment and self expression. This bookfocuses on the ways in which various traditionally marginalized groups, or co-communities, appropriate theatre for their own specific?needs, which are often at odds with those of the powerful sponsoring organisations. This book presents the author's own work as a theatre facilitatorand researcher to illuminate the ways in which applied theatre intersects with issues such as power relations, articulation, popular culture representation and society.
