Incorporation of nanomaterial into polymers often leads to enhanced physical and thermal properties. This study involves the investigation of the thermal property changes in epoxy resins as TiO2 nanoparticles are added. To determine if methanol would disperse the TiO2 nanoparticles readily Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was used. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) were used to monitor the thermodynamics of an epoxy resin reaction with and without TiO2 nanoparticles. FTIR instrumentation while heating the sample gives an in vivo approach in the determination of the reaction rate and max cross-linking of epoxy with an additive. Results show that TiO2 nanoparticles have an effect on the cross-linking reaction rate of the epoxy resin.
