摘要註:	全球海外直接投資總額於近年來急遽的增加，企業為了追求降低生產成本、形成規模經濟、分散經營風險與拓展海外市場等競爭優勢，無不致力於從事海外直接投資與邁向國際化發展。然而過去有關企業國際化對績效影響之研究存在許多分歧結果，國際化是否確實有利於企業績效的提升仍未有一致的定論。本研究認為不一致的結果導因於不同規模廠商在整體結構上存有相當程度的差異，這些差異可能導致國際化對於廠商的績效產生不同的影響；為驗證上述假說，本研究應用分量迴歸模型分析經濟部統計處民國95年出版之「製造業對外投資實況調查」資料，實證結果顯示：國際化確實有助於廠商提升經營績效，且大型廠商國際化投入的邊際效果較中小型廠商來的高；廠商擴大海外營運的地理範疇提高國際化廣度僅對大型廠商績效有顯著正面的影響，而對中型廠商效果並不顯著，甚至有損小型廠商的績效表現；在產品多角化方面，非相關產品多角化海外投資有利於大型廠商之績效成長，而中小型廠商以相關產品多角化方式進行海外投資較有助於國際化之發展。整體而言，我們發現不同規模廠商國際化所產生之影響不全然相同，故在進行國際化發展時也應有不同的策略選擇，方有助提升國際化之貢獻。 Total amount of FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) worldwide has increased dramatically in recent years, more and more firms engage in FDI and international development in order to pursuit competitive advantages. Although there have been huge empirical literatures on the relationship between internationalization and performance, we still suffer from a limited understanding of the relationship because of inconsistent results. Our study hypothesizes that the contributions of internationalization on firm performance may vary with the scale of firms. To verify this hypothesis, we apply quantile regression to analyze the data form “Report on Foreign Investment Strategies of the Manufactures” conducted by Department of Statistics, Ministry of Economic Affairs.The results show that internationalization increase operating performance indeed and the marginal effect of international investment reflects a higher effect in large firms than in small firms. Increasing the breadth of internationalization which extends the geographic region of foreign operations is only positively related to performance of large firms but not significant to medium firms, even negative to small firms. Unrelated product diversifications in FDI are more beneficial to improve the large firms, and small and medium sized firms invest overseas via related product diversifications may more conducive to the development of internationalization. Overall, we found that the effects of internationalization on different firm size are not entirely the same so that firms should choose different strategy during the development of internationalization to increase performance.
