Introduction -- Foundations b6 s Insights from Previous Work -- Benefits Realization Capability -- Insights into Current Adoption of Benefits-driven Approaches -- Succeeding with Benefits Realization -- The Challenges of Benefits Realization -- Benefits Realization from the IT Portfolio -- Building the Capability -- Big Picture b6 s the Framework Evolved Through the Research -- Practices in Practice - New -- Making a Difference b6 s First Steps in a Change Programme -- Lessons Learned b6 s Reflections on Research Methods -- Looking Ahead b6 s Implications and Opportunities --.
There is a considerable gap between what we know about the value of a 'benefits-led' approach and the extent of effective adoption of these approaches in organisations. A key challenge is overcoming this 'knowing-doing' gap. Colin Ashurst tackles this from the perspective of developing an organizational capability for benefits realization. Developing this benefits realization capability is a strategic change programme, which involves changing attitudes and behavior b6 s not just the adoption of a new approach to projects. He provides insights to improve practices and a foundation for future research. This book provides a fresh perspective on the challenges of benefit realization from IT. It draws on the recent and ongoing research of the author to explore how to build the organizational capability to realise the strategic potential of information technology. It is seeking to tackle the gap between theory and practice and explore how to gain wider adoption of successful socio-technical and benefits-driven approaches to investments in IT.
