anti-Russian lobby and American foreign policy /[electronic resource] :Andrei P. Tsygankov. - 1st ed. - New York :Palgrave Macmillan,2009. - xvi, 240 p. :ill. ;22 cm.
Includes bibliographical references (p. [173]-229) and index.
The U.S. Russia policy after 9/11 -- The anti-Russian lobby -- The "new Cold War" and the American sense of history -- The Chechnya "oppressor" and U.S. objectives in the Caucasus -- "Authoritarianism at heart"and Washington's democracy promotion -- "Expansionism by habit" and American security -- Russia's energy "imperialism" and U.S. interests -- Toward an alternative Russia approach.
The book explains why the US-Russia post-9/11 partnership did not endure. Washington backed away from its initial commitment to a new levelof cooperation with Moscow in addressing issues of terrorism, energy security, political instability and weapons proliferation. Much of America's policy is shaped by an ambition to remain the only world's superpower and by activities of interest groups with the agenda of isolating Russia from the Western world. Although these groups do not dictate the official policy, their influence has been notable. The book analyzes the negative role played by Russophobia and formulates a different approach to Russia in the post-Cold War world.
