This book shows trainers how to create building blocks, construct the right linkages, and measure the impact of training programs from the first step (Level 1 - reaction) to the final destination (Level 5 - ROI). Including a new ground-breaking Level 6 exploring training sustainability, this is a must-read for HR professionals.Every year billions of dollars and countless resources are poured into employee training programs. Yet year after year the bottom-line impacts of these initiatives go largely unmeasured. As a result, many business and training professionals never discover whether training actually 'worked' and was ultimately worth the investment. In Measuring and Maximizing Training Impact, Dr. Paul Leone offers a streamlined remedy for this tremendously costly problem. He delivers a practical roadmap for accurately measuring the business impact of your training initiatives - a roadmap that will allow your training dollars to do more and go further than ever before. Drawing from more than fourteen years of research on training measurement and evaluation in some of the world's largest Fortune 100 companies, the book provides a quick and simple 6-level strategy for measuring and maximizing training impact. Using the traditional five levels of evaluation set forth by Kirkpatrick and Phillips, Dr. Leone introduces some new and ground-breaking techniques for isolating the impact of training on the bottom line. To this measurement approach, he adds a revolutionary new Level 6 which measures 'transfer climate' - the factors back on the job that can make or break the impact and ROI of any training program. Through case studies and real-world examples, he takes you on a transformative journey and builds a bridge from training initiative to bottom-line benefits. Measuring and Maximizing Training Impact is an invaluable tool for anyone who is seeking to identify, report, and optimize the impact of their training dollars. Human resources professionals, business executives, and training practitioners will be able to concisely and confidently report which training investments worked, why they worked, and how to improve results. Whether your training budget is shrinking or growing, the only way to maximize the power of those precious dollars is to build your bridge and measure the impact of your training programs.

Paul has perfected an invaluable measurement process that allows leaders and executives to showcase the powerful effects of training investments and even convince some of the nay-saying stakeholders that training is not just an expensive perk, but an absolute necessity to stay competitive. With his Level 6 analysis, he also helps executives finally understand how to focus and fine tune training efforts to create maximum impact for the organization. We worked with Paul to develop an impressive and rock solid business case that investment in our training programs was incredibly valuable and making a significant contribution to the bottom line. - Scott Blanchard, Principal and Vice President, The Ken Blanchard Companies For decades learning professionals have struggled to find their way when it comes to measuring the success of programs. There are many different roads to the same desired end. Collectively these different approaches lead learning professionals and their executives down the path to understanding the value of learning and how to maximize the investment to achieve the greatest return. Paul's book, Measuring and Maximizing Training Impact, is another valuable contribution to this journey. - Patti Phillips, Ph.D., President & CEO, ROI Institute, Inc. Measuring and Maximizing Training Impact is a 'must read' for L&D professionals of all levels of expertise. Paul Leone provides straight-forward, practical guidance from an internal practitioner's perspective on how to cut to the core of measuring training effectiveness and impact, as well as, how to present results to stakeholders in a meaningful way. His Level 6 - Transfer Climate is a unique addition to the traditional 5 Levels - one that is assured to help L&D organizations maximize the impact they have on business results. - Lou Tedrick, Vice President - Learning & Development, Verizon Wireless Paul's book helps guide a focused, action-oriented discussion with business leadership on the impact of training. He not only presents a smart and fresh approach to evaluating and evolving curriculum design, but he also addresses the critical role climate plays in learning transfer. A must read for new and experienced practitioners. - Rebecca Romano, Vice President and Head of Talent Development, NBCUniversal As a practitioner, Paul brought exceptional expertise to the field of training measurement and evaluation. Now, as the author of Measuring and Maximizing the Impact of Training, he brings all his knowledge and experience to life, sharing a wealth of insights and new techniques that every training organization can use to demonstrate the true impact training can have on the bottom line. - Julie Staudenmier, Executive Director of Learning and Organizational Development, Boehringer Ingelheim.
