There were lots of extraordinary changes in Taiwan's politic, economic, social and cultural aspects during the Japanese occupation period. Within all of the modern building trends, the Japanese-style houses and dormitories are influential most. Residents, according to the local environment, climate, and the different lifestyles and habits of occupants, reformed those colonial-style residential spaces in their ways. Which not only means the wisdom of residents trying to adapt to those kinds of buildings, but also the memories of enriching their lifetimes. Recently, people care more and more about the historical spaces around our world. Hence, those were originally crumbling or vacant Japanese-style buildings, now get people's attention again. Many people try to preserve those historical spaces by ways of re-using or re-utilizing them. I'd like to know, in these different ways of preservation, how can we keep the historical spaces' original style, and make them to fulfill people's needs in modern city at the same time? In this study, I'm going to discuss:how to give those old Japanese-style buildings new lives in a better way. How can we reuse them and remain those buildings' historical values and meanings? After all, those buildings not only provide good places for our leisure time, but bearing precious historical memories as well. What's more, I also concern the users' position and role to those Japanese-style buildings' re-using and re-utilizing cases in the course of the progressing of the society. The Japanese-style houses and dormitories should be preserved due to their historical vales and memories. And there're many issues worthy of being discussed between the historical spaces themselves and the ways of re-using and re-utilizing them. Therefore, this research is going to study the case of the already re-utilized, re-used or preserved historical space, which is built during the Japanese occupation period, according to the Japanese-style houses' features. I hope this research can be a model for people who studying the vacant historical spaces and Japanese-style buildings; also provide them an example to design the research course and framework. |
