1.The Mechanisms of Creative Thinking -- 2.Short Stories of High Goals: The "Creativity in the Classrooms" Programmes -- 3. In Search of the Volcano's Secret: The "Programme to Develop Children's Creativity" -- 4. A Special School Year: The Programme "Developing Flexible Thinking" -- 5. Conclusions.
This book examines the evidence-based interventions that can be used to promote creative thinking skills for children and adolescents in schools. It begins by explaining the theoretical basis of these training programmes, before presenting a coherent framework for the application of creativity theory in education. The authors describe and analyse programmes that have drawn on this framework, before offering an overview of the results of experimental studies which have validated the authors' approach. This book provides practical guidance on how the programmes can be applied in the classroom and discusses potential future directions for research and practice for increasing children's creativity. This book will be a valuable resource for teachers and teacher trainers, as well as to researchers in the psychology of creativity, education, and educational psychology. Alessandro Antonietti is Professor of Applied Cognitive Psychology at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Italy. There he is head of the Service of Learning and Educational Psychology of the Research Centre on Vocational Guidance and Socio-Professional Development, and of the Cognitive Psychology Lab. He is also Dean of the faculty of Psychology. He has carried out numerous experimental studies in creativity, problem solving, decision making, mental imagery, and analogy. He is co-author and -editor of more than 200 articles and over 20 books including, most recently, Music Interventions for Neurodevelopmental Disorders (2018, with Barbara Colombo and Braelyn R. DeRocher) Paola Pizzingrilli is a Psychologist in the Career Service at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Italy. Her research and publications focus on investigating and fostering children's creativity. Chiara Valenti is a Psychologist, Trainer, and Adjunct Professor of Psychology at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Italy, where she collaborates with the Service of Learning and Educational Psychology. Her research and publications focus on positive psychology and different life skills, creativity, and intervention programs for children and adults.
