Perceivers use a wide variety of information from their environment during sensory processing. Multi-modal perception and integration occur when sensory stimulation from multiple senses are processed simultaneously to create one perceptual experience. This is a phenomenon that commonly occurs; stimuli from the environment are often accompanied by other stimuli being experienced through multiple modalities. The present study investigated the effect that manipulation of the rhythm of tactile productions of a word accompanied with auditory productions of it had on memory recall and reaction time to the word during an old new recognition test. Words were presented with vibrations either synchronous with the auditory production of the word, or asynchronous with it. Participants (N=52) were college-aged students from a mid-sized north-eastern university. A significant main effect of order was found, participants who were presented with asynchronous stimulation first on average reacted faster to words during the old-new recognition phase (p<.01). There were no other significant main effects found.
