Through the Joint Association Settlement Officer Program (JASOP), a cooperative venture of Los Angeles County and Dispute Resolution Services, Inc., a division of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, judges of the Superior and Municipal courts of Los Angeles County refer litigants to voluntary mediation in an attempt to resolve litigation before trial. Data were collected from 135 archived JASOP mediations of personal injury lawsuits conducted between June 1999 and November 1999 to examine the relationship between mediator gender, disputant gender combination, and mediation outcome. No relationship was found between mediator gender, disputant gender combination, and mediation outcome.
