Inflation and the String theory landscape.
- 83 p.
Adviser: Leonard Susskind.
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Stanford University, 2005.
String Theory seems to have a vast landscape of metastable and stable solutions. I will use a combination of statistical and anthropic arguments to speculate that inflation did not last much longer than the observed 62 e-foldings. I will discuss the possible observational consequences of a short period of inflation. In order to rigorously answer this question, it will be necessary to understand the appropriate probability distribution on the landscape. I will mention some ideas for how to define the probabilities.
