Summary:	60,000 would be imposed on the offender in accordance with Article 35 of Act Governing the Punishment of Violation of Road Traffic Regulations as amended to efficiently prevent drunk driving. With several modifications, punishments such as motor vehicles towing and safekeeping forcibly, motor vehicles auction, driver’s license suspension (revocation) were added, and that the vehicle owner would be sentenced to a fine and vehicle license plate would be suspended if the motor vehicle owners are known but fails to prohibit the drunk driving of the drivers. Additionally, on March 30, 1999, Legislative Yuan reviewed and passed a drafted amendment to the Criminal Code, adding Article 185-3 in Chapter of Crime against Public Safety that “drivers unable to drive safely shall be sentenced to imprisonment or detention.” From its severity, drunk driving is now recognized as a violation of criminal law instead of a violation of administrative law.
