This book narrates and analyzes the southern tours by Booker T. Washington and his associatesin 1908-1912. The author provides analysis ofthe importance of these tours in early 20th-century race relations, and relates them to Washington's racial philosophy and its impact on the various partsof black society. Instead of focusing on how Washington struggled against W.E.B. DuBois in a quest for leadership, this study emphasizes how he fought to undermine white supremacy.
