Hallowed secularism
theory, belief, practice /[electronic resource] :Bruce Ledewitz. - 1st ed. - New York, NY :Palgrave Macmillan,2009. - xii, 224 p. ;22 cm.
Includes bibliographical references (p. [205]-209) and index.
Secularists' indifference and hostility towards religion -- The roots of secularism -- The failure of secularism -- The framework of hallowed secularism -- The public life of hallowed secularism -- The local life of hallowed secularism -- The international life of hallowed secularism -- Beyond religion -- Beyond humanism -- The possibility of hope.
In this book, former Yeshiva student turned secularist Bruce Ledewitz proposes a Reformation in secular thinking. He shows that in opposition to today's aggressive Atheism, religious sources are necessary if secularism is to promote fulfilling human relationships and peaceful international relations. Amid signs that secularism is growing in unhealthyways, Ledewitz proposes a new secular wayto live, in which elements of religion, humanism, and materialism are combined to create something at once quite old and startlingly new.
