This research focused on the policies that are enacted and maintained by the United States government to criminalize political action. The criminalization of political action has resulted in the convictions of those who will be referred to as political prisoners. These policies have been enacted by the U.S. government through the prosecutory medium of the grand jury, in order to establish its power over those who stand in opposition to its political, social, and legal policies that are embedded in the history of this country's engagement of colonization. The United States protects itself from liability by using the Constitution as a shield and patriotism as a weapon.

520 $a The Constitution, however, provides for the same protection of U.S. citizens who have been criminalized for their political action. Specifically, the amendments protecting citizens against self-incrimination also offer the right to free speech. These protections are often arbitrarily applied and decontextualized as a convenience in order to prosecute individuals and groups who are involved in political action.
520 $a This research has been executed with the intent to shed light on and to bring into focus the policies of the United States which support and make laws that have been designed to protect the United States from terrorist acts and from supposed insurgent terrorist groups and anticipated terrorist attacks. This research has determined that these existing policies as well as the laws that are currently being drafted are consistently maintained in order to support and endorse racist and "anti-nationalist" ideals against the Global South.
520 $a This research stands in consistent critical relationship to the answers that have been provided by the media, literature, periodicals, and news, as well as the United States government, the Federal Prison System and political prisoners themselves: Political imprisonment is an intervention on the part of the state that legitimizes criminalization. This process of criminalization by the state also serves as the mechanism which illegalizes political action/activism.
