This study was to investigate the help seeking process and feeling of new female immigrants suffered from domestic violence, especially the main reason of their return to the abuser after reporting to formal and informal social supporting systems. The purposes of this study are as follows: firstly, to investigate the responding modes of new female immigrants under domestic violence so as to form the reference for the measures of the Domestic Violence Prevention Center. Secondly, to understand the situation of new female immigrants under domestic violence and the conflict and influence in the help seeking process (why they are not able to quit the abusers). Thirdly, to analyze whether the expectations for police, health, and social services would affect the willingness of victims of domestic violence to apply for retraining order and to seek assistance again, from the in-depth interviews of new female immigrants. Lastly, to find out what kind of assistance from government and social workers the new female immigrants under domestic violence are mostly expecting in the help seeking process. The study found that the responding modes taken by new female immigrants under marital violence are as followings. 1. To endure since there is not a relative to be seen. 2. To inspire the abuser with sentimental emotions and to wish the abuser would be changed. 3, To transfer the focus of life. 4. To temporarily away from home, away from the abuser's threats and violence. 5. To seek for spiritual sustenance through religion. 6. To talk with friends to express emotions. 7. To resist violence with violence without any tolerance, 8. To harm themselves or suicide to make the abuser felt guilty. 9. To consider terminate the marriage relationship with the abuser. 10. To seek assistance and to get supports. The female immigrants under domestic violence will seek a variety of official and unofficial social supporting systems for help to deal with the abuser's violence. From the study, we found that, regardless of the Taiwanese women or new female immigrants under domestic violence, the responses and help seeking process are roughly the same. The only difference is that the new female immigrants are less able to obtain resources and assistance from her original family. Why victims of domestic violence return to the abuser after reporting to formal social supporting systems, the possible reasons are as follows. 1. They have not yet obtained citizenship. 2. To give their children a complete family. 3. Lack of independence and autonomy in the economy. 4. They believe the abuser has changed. 5. The lack of the endorsement and support from her original family. 6. No shelter, nor the relatives and friends to provide support. 7. Due to the misleading of the social workers, resulting in the battered women hesitant to step forward. The expected assistance from the government include : 1. to provide legal advice, to lift the hearts of confusion;2. to provide translation services and to assist in understanding the content;3. to provide safe and temporary residence premises;4. to provide financial subsidies and alleviating their hardships;5. to provides employment opportunities and to help them to get rid of economic control. Finally, we proposed some recommendations for government departments, expecting the service attitude and the way of prevention network in dealing with the new immigrants of female victims of domestic violence could be improved, so that battered women have basic rights and dignity and their trouble would be solved in the near future.
