This book examines the development of trans-national infrastructure within the European Union. The evolution of economic integration within the EU has created a need for a set of supporting infrastructure networks that meet the needs of the EU in terms of mobility, energy and telecommunications. The need for these networks to meet the needs of the evolving EU economy has gone hand in hand with a broadly set process of regime shift in which state-driven development is being supplemented or even replaced by market-driven actions. This represents a new paradigm for development. This text addresses the progress towards this shift and the extent to which it has addressed the broad strategic aims of infrastructure networks.
