Summary:	none Since renovation reform, the economy of Vietnam has started recovery and development. As other countries, Vietnam also follows economic integration trend. One of the clearest activities of economic integration of Vietnam is attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). Therefore, this study aims to find out the effects of FDI on the economy of Vietnam, analyze the advantages and disadvantages of Vietnamese economy on attracting FDI, and discuss FDI trend in the future in Vietnam.This study calculates the sources of economic growth to assess the contribution of the use of FDI on the Vietnamese economy. In addition, the SWOT analysis is also undertaken to evaluate advantages and disadvantages of the Vietnamese economy. Major findings of this study by using FDI in Vietnam are summarized as follows: (1) the promotion of GDP, (2) the expansion of exports, (3) the creation of jobs, (4) the implementation of technology transfer, (5) the change of economic structure, and (6) the increase of investment.For the continuation of attracting FDI in the future, the government of Vietnam needs to improve infrastructure, deregulation of the economy, and an increase of government and business efficiency.
