Thesis (D.Sc.)--Robert Morris University, 2015.
The agile ethnography observed some 300 digital natives in a higher education academic and multiple different social settings at a mid-Atlantic university campus through 2014. The research is a study of the culture of the digital native students. Digital natives are considered youth that have grown up in a digital environment or born into the digital world that breathes technology as common as air. The research's investigation was designed to understand meanings and clarify a description of what is the digital native culture today, 2015? The research utilized 62 ethnographic informants to provide emic knowledge about their culture and its associations with technology. The research uncovered new evidence in the culture that included: a series of hidden languages, a point of technology addiction, and observations of race, gender, and nationality barrier erosion. The research fills in a gap in the literature, and describes the youth as instantaneous, nerd chic, Snapchatters that self-prescribe cognitive mental health stimulation through technology's engagements. Finally, this agile ethnography suggest manners in which scholars can further this research.
