Post-transcriptional mechanisms in endocrine regulation
[electronic resource] /edited by K.M.J. Menon, Aaron C. Goldstrohm. - Cham :Springer International Publishing :2016. - xiv, 341 p. :ill., digital ;24 cm.
Mechanisms of post-transcriptional gene regulation -- Post-transcriptional regulation of insulin and insulin like growth factor -- Posttranscriptional regulation of cytokine signaling during inflammatory responses -- Regulation of luteinizing hormone Receptor mRNA expression in the ovary -- Post-transcriptional regulation of steroid hormone receptors microRNA regulation of endocrine function in the ovary -- Translational control in the germline -- Post-transcriptional regulation of VEGF-A -- Post-transcriptional regulation of prostaglandin biosynthesis -- Translational and post-translational control of leptin production by fat cells -- Post-transcriptional regulation of parathyroid hormone gene expression in health and disease -- Post-transcriptional and post-translational regulation in steroidogenesis -- Post-transcriptional regulation of glucocorticoid function -- Post-transcriptional regulation by brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the nervous system.
This book examines how post-transcriptional mechanisms control endocrine function. This includes newly identified regulatory mechanisms involved in hormone biosynthesis, control of hormone receptors and the outputs of hormone mediated signal transduction. Chapters address endocrine hormones including protein peptide/peptide, steroid, and non-steroidal hormones. The impacts of these mechanisms on disease and health are covered, providing a novel update to the scientific literature. Post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms play an essential role in controlling dynamic gene expression. The outcome of this regulation includes control of the amount, timing, and location of protein expression. Regulation is mediated by cis-acting RNA sequences and structures and transacting RNA binding proteins and non-coding RNAs, including microRNAs. Recent advances in characterization of these regulatory factors have revealed enormous regulatory potential.
