Thesis (Ph.D.)--New Mexico State University, 2017.
This research presents new methods of harvesting electromagnetic energy, targeted for low-power bio-medical electronics, sensor networks, and the Internet-of-Things (IoT) domain. An analytical unifying framework for RF Energy Harvesting (RFEH) systems is presented, providing a means of direct comparison of arbitrary topologies. In addition, a novel passive AC/DC combining architecture is investigated and presented as advancing the state-of-the-art for RF energy harvesting. The proposed architecture is analyzed theoretically and experimentally via deployment on an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) utilizing the 0.134m CMOS7RF process. The system as a whole is designed to operate at the 2.4 GHz ISM band utilized by 802.11 wireless protocols.
