This doctoral project offers a solution to a serious limitation of the cognitive-oriented teacher-centered educational system of the South Korean church. The scope of this project is limited to Shinbanpo Presbyterian Church, which comes from the biblical and theological perspective of the Hap-Dong denomination—the largest denomination among South Korean Presbyterian churches. Through careful research, the researcher seeks to answer the following question: “Will application-oriented sermon-based small groups assist discipleship effectiveness of South Korea Christians?” The conclusion of this doctoral project is that in the South Korean context, as an antidote to the cognitive- oriented teacher-centered educational system of the South Korean church, the application-oriented sermon-based small-group strategy is an effective way to help Christians grow in the likeness of Christ.
