This book, A History of Chinese Theatre, outlines the development of Chinese theatre over more than a thousand years. It addresses the origin of traditional Chinese theatre, the rise of xiqu in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, the climax of xiqu in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the variety of Chinese local theatres, the growth of modern Chinese theatre market, and also the future of Chinese theatre.
