This work explores and proposes a potential role for A.I. to serve as a tool in space making within residential design systems. At this time in history, A.I. plays a role in our daily lives, mostly unnoticed through applications in our technological devices [i.e., GPS, automotive systems, home devices, cell phones] and through our general internet usage. Most recently, however, applications such as ChatGPT© have demonstrated the power and potential of A.I. on a more accessible and noticeable level. Its speed, accuracy, and usability [punctuated by natural language processing] demonstrates how impactful an interactive A.I. can be in creating humanistic responses.This project, through the incorporation of evidence and inspiration from precedent studies, case studies, and articles, demonstrates how A.I. could be used to make our homes more responsive to our current internal states and feelings by creating space and atmosphere. Modularity, volume, light, and sound, are explored in creating reactive environments - environments that change according to their occupancy and their occupants' evolving inner worlds. The concept of "sense" is explored in terms of human senses, identified through biometrics. The home residence is given the ability to "sense" through systems that can detect spatial occupancy and health indicators through applications and biometrics. This project will present a potential solution to space making combining all of these elements - people, A.I. programming, and the home residence.
