This thesis investigates the decline of sensory engagement in increasingly digitalized products and aims to reclaim user sensory engagement by reimagining the vinyl record player as a phygital experience. The problem area focuses on the potential decline in cognitive ability development due to simplified interactions caused by digitalization. While more and more products are becoming digitalized and hybrid products have become commonplace, there is a notable lack of research on phygital experiences, highlighting the necessity of this study. As a prototype to demonstrate the concept and approach, I intend to combine the rich sensory experience of an analog vinyl record player with cutting-edge digital technology to enhance user interaction and preserve cultural heritage. Through a design process that includes historical research, case studies, user scenario development, and iterative prototyping, this study explores how to seamlessly integrate physical and digital elements to create a more immersive, multisensory experience, setting a precedent for future design approaches in the industry.
