Seoul has long relied on external sites to manage its waste, distancing waste infrastructure from the daily lives of its residents. This dependence on a few off-site waste facilities makes the city's waste management system extremely fragile: if one facility faces an issue, the entire system struggles to keep up.'Living with Trash' explores the possibility of a new waste treatment system that integrates trash infrastructure into Seoul's residential and commercial districts. By combining an incineration plant, ash treatment facility, and landfill into a unified system and distributing it across urban neighborhoods, the project reimagines waste management as an integrated part of the city. This new typology aims to break down the waste network into a more intricate system, bringing the entire treatment process into view for residents who generate it, fostering greater awareness and a sense of accountability. Through architectural intervention, this thesis examines architecture's role in urban facilities and infrastructure. How can architecture serve as a tool to dismantle the transactional relationship between citizens and waste, restore shared responsibility for waste management between the city and its people, and strengthen the urban fabric as an ecosystem, making it more resilient against system failures?
