The story of the Moroccan Jewish Saint Sol H&dotbelow;atchuel (Lalla Solika) has generated a variety of texts in a variety of languages, both Jewish (Hebrew, Judeo-Arabic, and Judeo-Spanish) and European (Spanish, English, and French). I have collected and analyzed written accounts of Solika's life and death written in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. The variety of texts written about Solika allow for an examination of the way historical events are retold in different languages for different audiences and how these events are turned in legend and literature. My analysis of these texts places them within historical and literary historical contexts and analyzes at their gender discourse and their portrayal of Jews and Muslims in Morocco. Relations between history and literature and the manner in which the same story is transformed when told in a different language and for a different audience are explored.
