Summary:
Prior studies have shown that a strong leader is influential to deal with the challenges of rapid change in environment. However, most related studies have focused on the context of business organizations, but very few studies paid attention to nonprofit organizations. The purpose of this study is to explore that in the context of nonprofit organizations, primary and secondary schools, the effect of transformational leadership of principles on the organization development. Participants were 413 faculties from 14 primary and secondary schools, who were asked to rate their principles’ transformational and organization development in their schools using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire and Organizational Diagnostic Questionnaire. This study utilized the regression analysis techniques to analyze the relationship between leadership and organization development. The result of this study indicated that idealized influence and intellectual stimulation leader behaviors of principles have positive relationship with organization development. This implied that principles of primary and secondary schools can utilize idealized influence by proposing and communicating the vision for the school future development, and use intellectual stimulation by introducing new ideas into school and stimulating faculties to pursue innovation.
