This thesis aims to account for the interpretative differences between the sentence final particles (SFPs) le and de in Mandarin Chinese and provide an analysis that captures their syntactic properties. Along with Shen (2004)‟s analysis, which categorized le as a [+dynamic] particle, I propose that de is [-dynamic], which needs to agree with the closest predicate in dynamicity. This analysis suggests that all the predicates in Mandarin Chinese are [+dynamic] by default. As a result, I re-define the function of dynamic light verbs proposed in Shen (2004). I argue that dynamic light verbs do not need to serve the function of inchoativity; instead, they provide the extent change on common grounds. Semantically, le and de can both signify the change of common grounds, while de has more restrictions on privateness and accessibility of information, as proposed in Soh (2018).
