In today's fast-paced digital culture, dating for Gen Z often begins online but rarely results in meaningful in-person connection. This thesis investigates how interior design can facilitate that transition by bridging the gap between digital interaction and physical encounter through carefully curated spatial environments. Centered on New York City's complex dating landscape, the project addresses challenges such as decision fatigue, emotional detachment, and safety concerns, all of which are intensified by app-based dating culture.Through exploratory research, including a self-designed survey, behavioral analysis, and urban site study, the thesis identifies key social and psychological needs for Gen Z daters. These include privacy with visibility, mood control, and adaptable environments. The selected site, a rooftop at 10 Jay Street in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood, offers a unique opportunity to create an indoor-outdoor dating venue situated within a vibrant, youthful context. The proposed design introduces a bar and lounge that accommodate varying levels of social comfort and user control, supported by responsive lighting, curvilinear spatial organization, and app-integrated features.By integrating insights from media theory, color psychology, and contemporary dating behaviors, the project proposes a new typology of social space. It is a space that fosters vulnerability, spontaneity, and genuine human connection in an era increasingly shaped by digital mediation.
